Decongestionnant Herboriste | Natural Herbal Decongestant
Introduction
A warm, tangy-sweet decongestant syrup combining lemon, apple cider vinegar, honey, ginger, cayenne, cinnamon, and optional horseradish. Simmer gently to extract flavor without boiling hard.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup raw apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup organic honey (more offsets acidity)
- Ginger: 1 tbsp powdered OR 2 tbsp dried or fresh root
- 1/2 tsp cayenne (use lower heat units or less if sensitive)
- Cinnamon: 1 to 2 tsp powdered OR 1 tbsp dried chips
- Horseradish (optional): about 1 tsp freshly grated
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes; avoid boiling. The goal is slow bubbling to release herbal constituents.
- Strain into a jar through a fine mesh strainer. If using powdered spices, line the strainer with a paper towel to catch more solids (optional).
- Cool, then lid and store. Keeps well due to acids and honey; refrigerate if not using quickly. Smell-check if it’s been a while.
Tips
- For maximum honey enzymes, consider stirring in honey after simmering once the liquid cools slightly (reader note).
- Adjust cayenne heat to taste; start low if sensitive.
- Shake before using if sediment settles.
Optional Additions
- Add more horseradish for kick if available; order fresh if local stores lack it.
